Welcome To A Different World
I'm currently up in The Deep North for a few days, visiting the Lady Novelist & the Northern Professor. Among their capacious libraries I have discovered a book Cote D'Azure - Inventing The French Riviera. It includes the following dazzling insight into the lifestyles of the rich & famous in the 1920s:
"Princess Violette Murat, friends say, not only bought her opium in Toulon, but also rented a submarine in order to smoke it in peace."
You couldn't make this up . . .

Do you think the pont at The Deep North would accomodate a very small submarine?
er that's "pond" not pont! Sorry. Gladys the cat is hitting the keys while trying to snuggle up to the warm computer.
That's not a bad idea, despite my sister's slight confusion about inflatable boats, I had thought of punts. I'll be popping in tomorrow, and may take soundings...
further investigation would lead me to opine that it would have to be a very small submarine with little room for decadent debauch. the lake is splendid, but no deeper than eight feet, and not especially wide or long.
