The latest from Channel 4 News - top doctors in 'Mount Everest really quite high' shocker . Apparently those attempting to climb in the Himayalas run some risk of finding themselves at high altitude. The last thing they could have anticipated . . .

As the great philosopher/poet Paul McCartney said: "We're going to get high, high, high . . . "
The young people tell me that some years ago Mr McCartney was a crooner with a popular beat combo from the north of England. Did he go on to a second career as a mountaineering philosopher? I'd always assumed his use of the technical term 'high' was associated with his youthful enthusiasm for 'jazz cigarettes', a medication not generally indicated for altitude sickness . . .
