Talkin' 'Bout A Reiverlution

At least that was what it said on a large improvised banner hanging by the side of the road into Carlisle early on Sunday morning. Are the debatable lands becoming ungovernable? Personally I doubt it, but I'm assuming that Piers may be able to shed some light on this enigmatic message.

I would guess it was one of FRED's guerilla art attacks.

He is still bitter about missing out on the March Warden job.

Piers - thanks for the suggestion: I happen to know that one of the organisers of Fred is a bit of an enthusiast for roadside detournement, but this banner (& another in the same style closer to Carlisle) struck me as too obviously in the (typo)graphic style of roadside protest to be knowingly conceived Art. (Which you could argue shows how successful it was as a piece of art if indeed that is what it was . . .)

Intruiging. This letter was printed in today's Cumberland News:

"REGARDING the banners that have been appearing around the city.

I’m not sure who is behind them but while working in my jobs as a secuity guard at Border Television we spotted another one on the fence, across at Cavaghan and Gray.

It read: “He who laughs last, laughs longest. BRFC 06.07.”

I wondered if it was somebody who plays for the Border Reiver football team as that could be their initials.

Let’s hope we can get to the bottom of it because it is puzzling the life out of me.

Paul James, Brampton"
